Limitless Ltd Introduces The First Virtual Reality Character Technology to Forge Emotional Connections

Published by:

Limitless Ltd, a new VR startup created by Pixar and Bungie alum Tom Sanocki, supplies VR content producers with the technologies to achieve the creation of real-life VR characters better, easier, faster and cheaper. The company’s patent-pending Limitless Creative VR Environment solves the complex problem of building and integrating characters into VR content that reflect real-life by responding to voice recognition, gestures, gaze and other rich cause/effect input. The technology is being targeted to film and game developers initially, as well as other vertical markets including education, advertising and travel.

Sanocki is uniquely qualified to run a team of ex-Pixar/ex-Bungie pioneers who are creating a higher standard for VR character technology. During his 11 years at Pixar, Tom filed 4 patents, led character teams, and was the lead character creator of characters such as Kevin the Bird in “Up”, and the award-winning Mater in “Cars”. He most recently spent 4 years at Bungie building real-time characters into the popular game “Destiny”.

“Engaging with characters changes the emotional aspect of a story and increases viewer immersion- whether it’s a film, a game, a promotional video or an advertisement,” said Tom Sanocki, founder of Limitless Ltd. “We have assembled a team from high-end film and game companies who are dedicated to creating characters that are just as much a part of our world as we are a part of theirs.”

Limitless’ first customer is Motional, LLC. Motional founder Mark Walsh spent 18 years at Pixar, supervising character animation on “Finding Nemo” and “Ratatouille”, and crafting Dory in “Finding Nemo”, plus writing and directing the Pixar short film “Partysaurus Rex”. Together, Motional and Limitless created an interactive animated short film in VR called “Gary the Gull,” which will debut at the 2016 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next week, March 14-18, 2016.

“With Limitless, my team can focus on telling a great story, while Limitless handles the complicated technical process of creating and integrating VR characters that draw the viewer in and create an emotional connection that has not yet been achieved in VR until now. Tom and his team at Limitless are blazing trails and setting a high standard for character VR quality, just as VR content is starting to become more popular.”

Sanocki added, “It’s our hope that by the time VR hits the mainstream, much of the content available will feature believable characters created with the Limitless Creative VR Environment.”

The Limitless Creative VR Environment Includes:

  •     Limitless Real- Life Code for VR Characters:

o    The Limitless real-life code provides VR developers and storytellers a real-life emotion engine that creates an emotional connection through interactivity. It does this by mastering the technology that allows VR characters to respond to voice, gestures, gaze and other cause/effect rich input.

  •     Limitless VR Character Integration:

o    Integration normally takes programmers days, if not months, to integrate VR characters into VR Worlds. Limitless Character Integration solves this integration problem, among others, by:

  •     Integrating VR into characters;
  •     Providing the integration code to integrate VR characters into VR worlds and stories;
  •     Integrating VR character technologies, such as AI, shading, rendering, motion capture, etc., into VR characters.

The patent-pending Limitless Creative VR Environment is available now for early alpha testing with select partners. For more information, contact partners@vrlimitlessltd.com.

See Limitless and “Gary the Gull” at the GDC VR Lounge, located in the 3rd floor lobby of Moscone West, March 14-18, 2016. Private demos are also available. To schedule an appointment contact karen.blondell(at)gmail(dot)com or Susan(at)SusanLustyComm(dot)com.

CeeLo Green Releases Long Awaited iOS and Android Mobile Game as a Tribute to Atlanta and Gateway to New Video Content

Published by:

For two years, prior to news of industry-shifting mobile games from celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Tom Hanks, and Katy Perry, CeeLo Green, the unmistakable entertainer, producer, fashion-icon, and entrepreneur has been hard at work on CEELO’S JOYRIDE, available today as a free download from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Designed to put players in control of CeeLo’s favorite “shiny, shiny” cars, the game begins in the artist’s hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. Players are challenged to navigate CeeLo through 10 progressively difficult levels, representing a day in his life on the way to a hometown performance. Complete all 10 levels, and players will unlock a new, surprise music video from CeeLo, never before seen outside the game.

“I know for a fact that sometimes your dreams are only a joyride away, and this has been a guidepost for us throughout the creative process on CeeLo’s Joyride,” said CeeLo Green. “If my fans enjoy playing the game as much as I do, folks are going to be having a real good time—until they crash!”

To formally announce the release today in the game’s setting of Atlanta, CeeLo, in partnership with his GreenHouse Foundation, is surprising a group of deserving, underserved teens with an actual #JOYRIDE through the city, en route to a private concert. Collectively with his business partners in the mobile game, Green has chosen to allocate a portion of the game’s profits to the Foundation.

CEELO’s JOYRIDE features background music from the artist’s fifth studio album, Heart Blanche, and is reminiscent of classic driving games like Hill Climb while blending elements of level-based games like Mario Brothers. Players are asked to use gas and brake pedals to navigate increasingly treacherous terrain, beating time races, and completing challenges to get CeeLo to a performance on time. Collecting diamonds along the way allows players to upgrade to over-the-top vehicles waiting for them in CeeLo’s garage. Inside his virtual recording studio, players unlock badges and earn in-game achievements as they work toward viewing the game’s surprise music video. Set in his hometown, the game paints a picture of CeeLo’s Atlanta, featuring locations and challenges that are meaningful and real for the artist, all set to custom sound effects and voiceovers recorded specifically for the game.

“A common trend in the emerging celebrity mobile games space is a continuation of the illusions of being a celebrity,” said HyperPower Game Group Co-Founder and CEO, Clark Nesselrodt “We wanted CeeLo’s Joyride to give players a real sense of what a day might be like with this incredibly unique artist as he gets ready to perform for his hometown fans and family.”

CEELO’s JOYRIDE is produced by HyperPower Game Group, the licensed mobile game production startup founded with support from Green’s management company, Primary Wave. The group has previously produced titles on behalf of iconic rocker Melissa Etheridge, world-renowned acrobat Nik Wallenda and Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch. The game was developed and funded in partnership with Nestrix Studios, which develops mobile apps and games that balance great coding and user experiences with visual art and storytelling. Storylines for the game were developed and written for CeeLo by creative director, John Colombo.

“The greatest challenge was to create engaging and fun levels, cars and characters for CeeLo’s fans while also prioritizing the fun and fast mobile game engine that allows for fluent storytelling and engagement in the game,” describes Nestrix Studio’s Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer, René Mouynes.

The free-to-play mobile game is available now for iOS from the App Store and for Android from Google Play, and offers in-app-purchases. More information on the game including future updates and new cities can be found at ceelosjoyride.com. For information on CeeLo Green, please visit ceelogreen.com. To celebrate the game’s release, CeeLo has also created a playlist of his favorite driving tunes, available on SPOTIFY by visiting: http://smarturl.it/JoyRidePlaylist

ElasticBox Extends Hybrid Cloud Management with Additional Support for Clouds and Containers

Published by:

ElasticBox, the hybrid cloud application manager, today announced updates to its enterprise SaaS and virtual appliance products. This release brings enhanced capabilities to enable IT organizations to drive value, productivity and confidence throughout the enterprise. ElasticBox enables enterprises to scale and update private and public cloud deployments, and to easily migrate workloads from one cloud to another. ElasticBox provides a highly adaptive model that helps customers standardize the process of deployments and provision environments to ensure the ongoing performance of production applications.

“Based upon customer feedback, we continue to enhance ElasticBox to help our customers maximize the efficiency of their cloud operations. We’re excited about these enhancements which help enterprises take advantage of the latest services from cloud providers and the promise of containers,” shared Carol Carpenter, CEO of ElasticBox.

Additional Capabilities for Clouds
Today, ElasticBox enables application orchestration for more than 12 different cloud providers, including AWS, Azure, VMware and more. Based upon customer demand, ElasticBox has added support for CenturyLink Cloud, and has also added additional feature support for Google Compute Engine (GCE) and OpenStack.

Customers of ElasticBox can now take advantage of additional capabilities based on their needs, including: GCE features such as autoscaling support, Windows instances support, and a new functionality that allows users to select boot disk size. ElasticBox has also expanded its support for OpenStack implementations, adding support for Keystone v3 of OpenStack and Cinder v2, along with improved detection on providers without Cinder support.

Cloning an Instance On-Demand
Many enterprises are struggling to deploy and manage workloads at scale. ElasticBox has added a single pull-down button to clone an instance in production and all its related meta-data for deployment. With this single pull-down, users can now migrate a workload from one cloud to another by changing the deployment policy with a single click.

Kubernetes Support
While ElasticBox already supports the orchestration of Docker containers and Amazon ECS container support, ElasticBox has now added Kubernetes as another destination for applications. Kubernetes from the Google Compute Engine is supported as a deployment target, allowing users to build applications and package them with the appropriate configurations for the Google cloud. This expands the deployment options for customers who are seeking to create a wide range of applications that can be packaged into a container and managed via ElasticBox.

Continued Investments
With many enterprise IT organizations continuing to evaluate the feasibility of implementing cloud computing technologies within their own environment, mission-critical applications remain the primary consideration. Following is a list of on-going investments:

Management: Enhanced IT administration portal for managing users and permissions via AD or SAML environments, provisioning and reporting insights are available for key decisions related to performance. With this latest update, customers now have LDAP improvements to support thousands of groups.

Self-service portal experiences: IT can better manage users and workspaces while also defining which applications are made available based on internal policies defined by the enterprise. Self-service users include – application owners, IT administration and line-of-business users.

Public Application Boxes: ElasticBox has now added application boxes to the public repository. These application boxes combine all the components and microservices such as: frontend modules, databases, middle-tier application services, load balancers, and more. Like any other box, they can be modeled and deployed with a modern interactive live application viewer.

Product Information and Availability
Customers automatically gain access to the latest features that are enabled in both the SaaS and on-premises Virtual Appliance platform offerings.

Axino Solutions Acquires Ascom’s Systems & Solutions Business Unit

Published by:

Axino Solutions, a developer and provider of leading-edge OSS/BSS solutions, officially announced it has acquired Ascom’s Systems & Solutions business unit. The transaction is part of a strategic decision to accelerate the global roll out of its OSS/BSS product line for the global telecommunications market.

Michael Wallrath, Vice President of Ascom’s Network Testing business unit, was named Managing Director of Axino. The appointment of Wallrath, who oversaw and led Ascom’s Systems & Solutions division for the past 17 years, brings extensive telecom experience and leadership to the company and the business acumen to help ensure a transparent transition.

“The new investment will accelerate the global distribution of our award-winning OSS/BSS solutions and innovations”, said Wallrath. “The company represents nothing less than a true one-stop shop in every sense for our customers that need the right kind of experience, expertise and combination of service solutions to help them migrate from costly legacy systems to more efficient modules and platforms.”

The transaction was completed in December and will allow the business unit to continue its fast growth untethered and focus exclusively on the continued development of its best-in-class software solutions. The Ascom spin-off instantly thrusts Axino into the top-tier of companies worldwide in the telecommunications business software and systems solutions space. Axino, which is privately held, also develops software innovations for companies involved in the automotive, energy, retail and public municipality sectors.

Axino: OSS/BSS Solutions from A to Z

The fresh round of investment underscores the value and commitment our customers have placed in Axino and Ascom, according to Wallrath. He said Axino will increase spending across all areas of the business, most notably in development, systems engineering and customer service. Wallrath also said that Axino will bring on 75 employees from Ascom to bolster staffing.

The company plans to step up the global roll out of services such as its new Fraud Management & Revenue Assurance Solution, FAST, which was brought to market in late 2015. The solution, called game-changing by industry experts, enables carriers to spot and stop fraudulent back-alley operators from using illegal SIMBOX schemes to avoid interconnect fees in real time. Unlike other solutions that are costly, incomplete and technically outdated, Axino’s solution uses SVM (Support Vector Machines and ML (Machine Learning) technologies to instantly access and correlate xDRs, Aggregated xDRs and Subscriber xDRs, providing carriers the upper hand in identifying suspicious traffic patterns and origins before any revenue loss occurs.

Axino also plans to add additional services to the B2BSimpleX platform that was developed with several global carrier partners and carrier forums, including GBET and GSC. The platform earned Best Service Innovation at the 2014 Global Carriers Awards conference sponsored by Capacity Media and provides carriers automated capabilities to negotiate and exchange interconnect contracts with trading partners far more quickly and efficiently. Additional solutions, including the IPS platform and modules that automate carrier billing processes across the board, will also be rolled out to the carrier community.

“We are extraordinarily positioned as the solutions developer and systems integrator of choice, said Wallrath. “We look forward to continuing our work and partnership with carriers worldwide to develop the type of solutions and products that will help them grow and prosper.”

Microsoft to ship developer HoloLens for $3,000 in March

Published by:

Microsoft says it will start shipping a developer version of its augmented reality device, HoloLens, for $3,000 on March 30.

That’s around the same time Facebook’s Oculus will begin shipping the consumer version of its Rift virtual-reality headset for $600. HoloLens differs from the Oculus Rift in that it makes the viewer see three-dimensional objects in the real world, rather than blocking out the real and replacing it with a 360-degree fictional universe.

The HoloLens operates on Windows 10 and unlike the Rift, requires no tethering to a separate computer.

It’ll use a custom-built chip designed on an Intel platform. It’ll let users record high-definition video that recreates a mix of holographs overlaid on the real world that can be shared with people without the device.
